Preliminary structural design and CAPEX inputs for a Wimmera greenfield mineral sands refinery — PFS layouts, quantities and design basis, Victoria.
Project Context
During pre-feasibility and feasibility stages, the Donald mineral sands development required credible structural scope definition, layout options and cost inputs to support investment decisions in Victoria’s Wimmera region.
Engineering Scope
- Preliminary structural layouts for wet and dry process areas
- Design basis memoranda — loads, materials, design life and interface assumptions
- Order-of-magnitude steel and concrete quantities for CAPEX models
- Identification of long-lead or atypical structural items
- Coordination with process and civil teams on plot plan and equipment lists
- Input to study reports and stage-gate presentations
How We Delivered
We worked iteratively with the study team, updating layouts as process flows matured and feeding quantities into cost consultants. Structural options were presented with pros/cons for modularisation, expansion allowances and construction strategy.
Outcomes
- Defensible structural CAPEX for feasibility sign-off
- Clear design basis for subsequent detailed design
- Reduced rework risk at PFS/FS stage gates
